Information

The headquarters of the Fondazione di Studi di Storia dell'Arte Roberto Longhi, founded by the last will and testament of Roberto Longhi, is the villa "Il Tasso" in Florence.

The resources of the Longhi Foundation are:

  • a library,
  • a photo library,
  • a collection of works of art.


The Longhi Foundation is open to the public on an appointment basis.

The Longhi Foundation is open to:
  • Italian and foreign university professors and lecturers
  • Italians and foreigners with a degree in Art History


Admission to the Foundation is generally granted for research purposes. Researchers should apply by letter specifying the purpose of the visit, the subject of their research and which of the Foundation's resources they intend to consult.

The Foundation is open from Monday to Friday from 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. and from 2:00 to 6:00 P.M.

The Foundation is open to the public on an appointment basis.


DIRECTIONS
BY CAR
Highway A1 - Exit at Firenze Sud.

  • Take the roadway towards Firenze and exit at Viale Europa.
  • Take a right onto Viale Giannotti. Drive past the Esselunga supermarket (on the right).
  • At the traffic light take a left at Piazza Elia della Costa onto Via Uguccione della Faggiola for 300 meters.
  • Take Via del Larione across an intersection with a stop sign. Drive 300 meters to the end of the street where you will find another stop sign.
  • Take a right onto Via Fortini.
  • After 20 meters you will see the Foundation's driveway on the left. Back in through the gate and follow the signs to the parking lot behind the villa.

BY TRAIN
From the train station at Santa Maria Novella you can reach the Longhi Foundation either by:

> taxi: Tel. 055/4390 or 055/4499;
> by Bus. Take Bus no. 23 A/B, southbound, from Piazza dell'Unità Italiana

  • Get off the bus in Piazza Gavinana.
  • Continue on foot down Viale Giannotti.
  • At Piazza Elia della Costa take a right (there is a Banca Toscana on the corner) onto Via Uguccione della Faggiola.
  • Take Via del Larione across an intersection with a stop sign. Walk 300 meters to the end of the street where you will find another stop sign.
  • Take a right onto Via Fortini.
  • After 20 meters you will see the Foundation's driveway on the left.

TO VISIT THE COLLECTION

Access to collection is available upon written request. Reservations are required.

  • The Foundation can accommodate only a few visitors at a time (a maximum of 10 adults).
  • Requests should be sent well in advance and addressed to the President of the Foundation. They should indicate the number of visitors in the group, the reason for the visit and the proposed date.
  • If permission is granted, the visit will be scheduled at a time which is compatible with the Foundation's regular activities.
